Our Pastor

(Hanceford) Berry Carter, Senior Pastor of City Bible Church, is known for his very practical and insightful way of preaching and teaching the Word of God that speaks to people right where they live. Pastor Berry's passion and vision includes seeing lives transformed by the Love and Power of Jesus Christ, and to see each person fulfill their personal vision in relationship to building the Kingdom. As others fulfill their individual vision, his personal vision will truly be fulfilled. He believes people are looking for genuine relationships. It is very evident that he has placed great value and importance on genuine relationships throughout his entire life in ministry, leading by his own example both in ministry and in his personal life.

Pastor Berry is licensed and ordained through the Lester Sumrall Evangelistic Association. He attended Hosanna Bible Training Center in Macedonia, Ohio in the early 80's, and was also enrolled in correspondence studies through Rhema Bible College. In addition, he has also completed miscellaneous courses relating to Counseling and Marriage at Emerge Ministries in Akron, Ohio. He was set forth in 1993 to pastor Resurrection Life Fellowship, a new church plant in Dover, Ohio. He also served as senior pastor at Church of the Master in Canton, and Associate Pastor/Family Care Pastor for Canton Temple of Praise. He served in this position until September 2006, at which time City Bible Church was conceived and plans began to be laid for this new church plant in the Canton/Massillon area. Pastor Berry graduated from high school locally (Perry High School Class of 1972), and served with the Hoover Company as an employee for 30 years. His long-time desire has been to stay and to serve in his own hometown community.

With the heart of a servant, his passion includes teaching, encouraging, and ministering the love and the heart of God wherever He takes him.  God has enabled him to minister internationally in various countries including Burma, Cambodia, Thailand, Jamaica and India. His local involvement and partnerships include Pregnancy Support Center, Salvation Army, Aultman Hospital Clergy Board, and Toys for Toys.

He has served as president of the Massillon Area Clergy Association. In April 2014 he took the position as area coordinator in eastern Ohio with My Hope with Billy Graham. My Hope provides encouragement and partners with pastors through the resource of evangelistic materials for reaching their communities with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Changing America one family at a time!

He is available upon request to minister in conferences, retreats, and other churches.  He also ministers in local businesses in the area of “Value of People”, which creates an atmosphere of productivity and fulfillment in the workplace.  Pastor Berry also writes a blog for The Independent.   You can follow his blog A Shepherd's View at: http://www.indeonline.com/section/blogs01?taxid=3709&refresh=true

His wife, Peggy (also a Perry High Grad), serves as Administrative Assistant and Worship Leader.  Berry and Peggy have been married since December 24, 1976, and have two grown daughters, and four grandchildren.

Women's Ministry Leader

Linda Benson has been a member of City Bible Church since 2008 and has served in various leadership roles at the church.  She met Pastor Berry Carter while both served on the board at the Pregnancy Support Center (PSC) of Stark County, Ohio.   Linda says that upon her first visit to City Bible Church she recognized that God had called her and her husband Mark to the church.  Linda found a pastor who not only shepherds his congregation but also encourages members to find their gifts and talents and use them not just for the church but the community as well.  One of Linda’s passions is ministering to women.  She says this comes from her own life experiences having experienced the pain of divorce and challenges of single motherhood for several years.

She currently works as the administrative assistant to Mayor Kathy Catazaro-Perry in Massillon.  Linda has also been on staff at the PSC as Peer Counseling Supervisor, utilizing her gifts of listening and mentoring young women as well as training and supervising volunteers.  She also enjoys leading women’s book studies including Boundaries, Safe People and Lies Women Believe.

Linda and her husband Mark have been married since December 23, 1998 and between the two of them have 4 grown children and one grandchild.
